Apple just released iOS 16.3 Release Candidate. This is a sign that iOS 16.3 will be released to the public next week.

Developers and public beta testers can download the software now. Apple has also released R.C. versions for

  • iPadOS 16.3 R.C.

  • watchOS 9.3 R.C.

  • macOS 13.2 R.C.

  • tvOS 16.3 R.C.


New Features and Bug Fixes

The update includes using security keys like YubiKey to log in to your iCloud account. Although, keep in mind that you need two keys to use the feature.

iOS 16.3 also includes a new tutorial to show users how to use the Handoff feature on the new HomePod.


All Changes

Here is a list of all the changes in iOS 16.2 R.C. that aren't mentioned above:

  • Emergency SOS calls now require holding the side button with the up or down volume button and then releasing it to prevent accidental emergency calls

  • Support for 2nd Generation HomePod

  • Fixes an issue in Freeform where some drawing strokes may not appear on shared boards

  • Resolves a bug that made the wallpaper turn black

  • Fixes an issue where horizontal lines may appear while waking up iPhone 14 Pro Max

  • Addresses an issue where Siri may not respond appropriately to music requests

  • Resolves issues where Siri requests in CarPlay may not be understood correctly
