Apple may not be actively working on a successor to the HomePod mini. Mark Gurman, a reputable technology analyst, in the latest edition of his "Power On" newsletter, explained that he believes there isn't a reason for Apple to update the HomePod mini model, as the newly reintroduced full-size HomePod offers a large number of features that were previously exclusive to the HomePod mini. These features include an Apple Watch S-series chip, a U1 ultra wideband chip, Thread support, a temperature and humidity sensor, and a larger backlit touch surface that illuminates from edge to edge.

Additionally, Gurman mentioned in August 2022 that Apple was considering launching an updated version of the HomePod mini in the future but did not provide a specific timeframe or details about potential new features. He said the update was unlikely to be "super-impressive," suggesting any changes to the HomePod mini would be minor. However, it seems that those plans have now been shelved, and Apple is not actively working on a new version of the HomePod mini.

It is worth noting that the HomePod mini was announced in October 2020 at Apple's iPhone 12 event, and less than half a year later, Apple discontinued the original HomePod, leaving the HomePod mini as the company's only speaker until this week when Apple relaunched the full-size HomePod. It will be interesting to see how Apple's HomePod strategy evolves in the future. It seems they are focusing on improving the full-size HomePod rather than introducing a new version of the HomePod mini.
