Ming-Chi Kuo recently suggested that Apple would launch a foldable iPad with a carbon fiber kickstand sometime in 2024. In a series of tweets, the analyst expressed his positivity that the device would be released that year, but did not give a more specific timeframe. The kickstand is said to be made lightweight and durable with carbon fiber material, and Apple has tapped Chinese polishing and bonding supplier Anjie Technology to be the beneficiary of the foldable iPad.

Kuo's Cautious Approach to iPad Shipments

Kuo has taken a "cautious approach" to iPad shipments for 2023, predicting a year-on-year decline of around 10-15 percent, but he believes the 2024 foldable model will "boost shipments and improve the product mix."

Rumors of Apple Releasing a Foldable iPad

There have been prior rumors of Apple releasing a foldable iPad, and display analyst Ross Young has reported that a foldable iPad display is in testing, around 20 inches in size, although he expects it to be released later, in 2026 or 2027. Furthermore, Apple is rumored to be working with LG on an ultra-thin cover glass that could be used for foldable products, although it is unclear whether it will be used for the iPad or the iPhone.

Young's Expectations

However, since Kuo's prediction, Young has stated that he is expecting multiple OLED iPads in 2024, but he has heard nothing about a foldable iPad at the same time.
